Last week a team of 25 ACPE students attended the University Sport Australia Division 2 Nationals at the Gold Coast. This event comprised of 39 (of total 42 member institutions) competing institutions, over 2,000 students and approximately 250 teams all vying for promotion into Division 1 competition held in September this year.
ACPE is often considered an underdog, simply because we are a smaller institution with a smaller team and often not enough reserve players on the bench to outmuscle the opposition.
We are proud to say that this expectation was exceeded by our students who put their heart and soul into every minute of every match during the week and certainly did not play like the underdogs.
This character shown was not limited to the competition as our students conduct and good manner was extended away from the sporting arena. All students proving to be exceptional representatives of ACPE and our community.
Held annually in July, Nationals Div 2 presented by UniBank consisted of 13 different sport competitions contested across men’s, women’s, mixed and open categories and is an ‘open entry’ event.
The top two ranked teams in each sport of the Div 2 competition (who have not already qualified for Div 1) gained promotion into Nationals Div 1 the same year.
Only the top teams from previous event rankings can qualify for each of the competitions, meaning that rivalry between teams is fierce to claim the National Champion titles.
Div 1 will take place on the Gold Coast, September 28 – October 3.
Bring on Division 1!
