Bachelor of Dance Practice

Discover your full potential with our Bachelor of Dance Practice, a specialised degree that will equip you with the skills and experience to become a professional in the dance industry. The course develops artistry, choreography, performance, educational, business, and organisational skills for employment as leaders in the dance industry. This course covers a broad spectrum of learning essential to the profession:

  • Dance composition, performance, production, and promotion
  • Dance history, popular dance styles, and classical dance styles
  • Understanding professional integrity within dance
  • Exploring dance within a health context (dance and health, functional anatomy, and understanding health)
    .

Additionally, this dance course delves into professional skills such as project management, small business operations and technical production. The Bachelor of Dance Practice also serves as a pathway course to the Bachelor of Dance Education.

Course structure
The Bachelor of Dance Practice can be completed in three years of full-time study or its part-time equivalent. The program is divided into six semesters, each lasting 12 weeks. Students can expect approximately 16 contact hours a week, excluding examination and study weeks.

This dance course offers a diverse learning experience, blending lectures, tutorials, dance classes, performance workshops and seminars to deliver a comprehensive education. Students also have the opportunity to gain hands-on experience through two dance industry placements. The program is delivered via face-to-face learning, with selected units available online for added flexibility.

Upon completing the Bachelor of Dance Practice, graduates can pursue an array of exciting career opportunities. These include various roles in dance teaching, such as working in private studios, community organisations or primary and secondary schools as a dance specialist for extra-curricular activities and even fitness organisations.

Graduates may also choose to become dance studio owners or independent dance artists. Other potential career paths include becoming a community dance facilitator, taking on organisational or artistic roles in dance activities aimed at community development or performance or working as a dance administrator, curator or director.

 

Bachelor of Dance Education

Embark on a fulfilling journey with our Bachelor of Dance Education, a course that, in four years, equips you with the knowledge and skills to become a qualified Dance and PDHPE teacher.

This dance education course is led by a team of accomplished professionals adept at fostering a great learning atmosphere. The degree cultivates essential pedagogical knowledge and understanding in students, preparing them to become classroom-ready teachers. As part of the curriculum, students will benefit from valuable hands-on exposure through practical experiences in school settings.
