Sport Business (Leadership) student Theodore Forsberg has managed to secure a desired internship with the Australian Football League (AFL) after completing his required work-integrated learning at ACPE.
The Bachelor of Sport Business (Leadership) degree at ACPE has been a desirable course for Theodore as many units are available online. Since Theodore lives on the Central Coast, the availability of online units helps to lighten his travel load. A required component of the Bachelor of Sport Business (Leadership) course is a Work Integrated Learning unit. With the help of the ACPE Career Development Services team, Theodore was informed about a position with the AFL; “I chose to pursue the AFL position because I never had experience in the sport before. After working a few days in the office I found it an enjoyable experience and a healthy atmosphere. I knew the AFL was a major Australian organisation and to get an opportunity there would be a great achievement.”
While on placement, Theodore was paired with a work placement partner and tasked with researching possible new AFL facilities for further or new usage. The work was mainly computer-based, creating profiles of up to ten different facilities and their availabilities. On completion of the task, Theodore and his partner presented their findings. It was during this placement period that Theodore was able to shine. Some key members of the office were impressed by Theodore’s work and was then offered to stay on as an intern with the AFL.
Local Area Manager for AFL NSW/ACT; Adam Clough has also informed us that Theodore is now currently working with their state facilities team, lead by the CEO on a key research project; “He’s been absolutely incredible considering it is unpaid work and making a strong case to create his own role in the future!”
At ACPE our industry partnerships ensure students have experiences such as these available to them for professional development, aiding students with job acquisition at the completion of their studies. Theodore is extremely grateful for this amazing opportunity; “I’d like to thank the careers team of ACPE, as they had set up my placement.”
