Adam Goodwin, final year ACPE student studying a Bachelor of Sports Coaching (Strength and Conditioning), has always had a passion for sport. While in High School, he was certain that he wanted a career in sport and when seeking advice from his School Sport Coordinator he said “In high school, my Sports Coordinator came up to me and told me that a great place to study a Bachelor in Sports Coaching (Strength and Conditioning), is ACPE, which she attended before becoming a sports teacher herself. So, I followed her word, did my research, and then applied to ACPE. To this day it was one of the best decisions I have made, as I have completed multiple internships with top sports teams and have been taught by highly qualified professionals”.
Adam went on to say, “Throughout my degree I have completed internships at GWS Giants, Sydney Sixers, Western Sydney Wanderers and recently at Sydney United 58 FC. All of these internships aligned well with my degree and what I wanted to do in the future and ideally has the pathway to for my future career a lot clearer for me.”
Adam’s career goal is to either become a physiotherapist and start his own clinic or become a Strength and Conditioning Coach, working with High Performance Sport. When the time came to decide on further studies, Adam’s goal was still to be a Physiotherapist, and this is where he started to seek advice from the ACPE Career Development Team “The application process was smooth and easy with the help of the Careers Development Team, I’m now waiting for applications to open so I can submit my application for the Masters of Physiotherapy”.
When asked about what advice he would share with current ACPE students, Adam said “My advice to fellow students is to gain Industry Experience while you study, this is an amazing opportunity to gain industry connections and to have your foot in the door to working in the elite field”.
