At ACPE it is important that students have access to industry experts and industry placements to support their studies and help them gain an understanding of future careers across the sports industry.

ACPE’s partner Water Polo NSW are one such organisation that help provide industry relevant experiences for ACPE students.

Marko is studying a Bachelor of Sports Coaching (Strength and Conditioning) and is putting his skills to practice with the Water Polo Talent Squad. As a strength and conditioning coach with the Talent Squad Marko supports the creation of athlete training programs and monitors and evaluates their progress. Over the last 6 months Marko has benefited from support from both ACPE and Water Polo NSW to help him develop the professional skills and attributes required for a Strength and Conditioning Coach working in performance sport.

“ACPE is providing me with resources and knowledge which helps me create training programs for the talent squad and guiding and equipping with the tools to become a successful and professional coach. Support from Water Polo NSW has also been fantastic. They have put trust in me to lead this program which is an amazing opportunity which I am very appreciative and grateful for. Even through the hard times of lockdown they arranged for me to run the training programs over zoom during lockdown, which placed me in a new experience, giving me a new perspective on coaching.

I hope to further purse a career that combines my love of water polo with my passion for of being in the gym. The next role I am working towards would be being involved in the S&C program for the Senior National Team.”

Water Polo NSW’s Talent Program Officer Vedran Cirkovic had the following to say about Marko:

“Marko’s assistance in the development of the program as well as in the players has been very important. It is evident that the skills he is learning and refining through ACPE are essential in his development and ability to perform tasks as a coach and professional in this particular field of sport. Marko’s leadership of the program under WPNSW has been exceptional both in an online environment during the pinnacle of COVID-19 as well as in the recent in-person environment. Marko is very passionate about his role and the sport of water polo, furthermore Marko is motivated to expand his responsibilities and improve his career.”

ACPE’s Head of Department for Sports Performance Duncan Greig commented:

“We are really pleased that Marko is putting into practice the knowledge and skills he is learning on his Sports Coaching (Strength and Conditioning) degree. Placements like this are so important for our students to gain real-world industry experience. The fact that he can do this under the watchful eye of Water Polo NSW’s expert coaches is outstanding.”
