Full time online, Bachelor of Sports Business (Leadership) student Lateisha Kenny is just one of our many students who have recently completed their degree with a fabulous job opportunity straight out of the gate.
ACPE students are required to complete a range of Work Integrated Learning Units as part of their course. As part of the Bachelor of Sports Business (Leadership) degree, Lateisha was required to complete a 40 hour placement for her subject Preparing for the Sport Industry of the Future.
This unit is an immensely valuable opportunity for students; it gives students a platform to not only experience but to demonstrate their skills and employability with an organisation. With the help of the Career Development Services Team, Lateisha gained a WIL placement with Water Polo Australia.
When asked about her experience with Water Polo Australia and how it has helped her with her studies she says; “My Work Integrated Learning experience with Water Polo Australia helped me understand the sports industry and gave me experience with different departments. Working with a National Sporting Organisation, helped me understand the difference between what a State Sporting Organisation oversees and what a National Sporting Organisation oversees.”
Holly Tyrell, National Development Manager from Water Polo Australia has overseen Lateisha during her placement. Holly adds that Water Polo Australia was extremely pleased to support Lateisha through her WIL placement experience; “We were so impressed with the attitude, enthusiasm, communication skills and efforts to integrate with the staff team that Teish demonstrated during her placement that we offered her a position that became available.”
Since commencing as a full-time employee with Water Polo Australia, Lateisha has continued to develop her skills, be open to learning and feedback as well as quickly become a contributing and valuable team member; “I enjoy all the people I work with and also have been out to a few Water Polo games to see the atmosphere and learn the game.”
As Lateisha finishes up her studies with ACPE, she reflects on her time with the college; “I really enjoyed being located in Sydney Olympic Park and I also enjoyed all the staff and other students who were always willing to help.” She also reveals that it is the people she has spent the last few years with as well as helping out the Uni with their mentor program, open days and Orientation weeks, and being able to compete for ACPE at Uni Nationals in 2017 and 2018 as highlights within her degree.
