Follow Your Passion and Build a Successful Career as a Teacher in Physical and Health Education with ACPE

The health and physical activity industry is booming as people and governments around the world are realising that physical activity, exercise and nutrition are crucial to improving physical health and mental health, reducing chronic disease and improving quality of life.

Funding for the prevention of disease is growing. The number of older people is only growing as a proportion of population. And sports are increasingly being seen as critical to community wellbeing and health outcomes.

There’s never been a better time to turn your passion for health, wellbeing, physical activity and health education into a dynamic career!

We know that your primary objective is to find a job and build a career you love. But with so many different pathways to reach your goal, it can be daunting to work out which route is right for you.

At ACPE we know that keeping your options open is paramount: that’s why we’re proud to offer courses and degrees that give you the flexibility to build your dream career in the physical activity and health education fields.

So if you’re thinking about studying something like a Bachelor of Health and Physical Education or a Bachelor of Physical Activity and Health Science, then ACPE’s three-year full-time (or part-time equivalent) Bachelor of Physical Activity for Health (Pathway to Education) degree could be the right path to your dream career.

“The Bachelor of Physical Activity for Health (Pathway to Education) degree provides an exciting blend of health, sports science and movement. Units cover topics like nutrition, psychology, anatomy and physiology, health promotion, sports medicine, entrepreneurship and even communication and professional integrity – giving you fantastic grounding to springboard into a variety of career opportunities,” says Debbie Le Roux, CEO of ACPE. “Our students are constantly telling us that the breadth and diversity of units on offer keeps them engaged and provides a really strong foundation for understanding the industry they’re hoping to enter after graduation.”

After graduating with a Bachelor of Physical Activity for Health (Pathway to Education) degree, many of our students go on to work in careers that use physical activity to improve the long-term health outcomes of communities. Some of the potential roles available to graduates of the Bachelor of Physical Activity for Health (Pathway to Education) degree include working as a local council or leisure centre community engagement officer, a health and wellbeing manager, a sports development or recreation officer, and other health-related positions within government, NGOs or private organisations, to name just a few.

And if your appetite for study hasn’t been satisfied, the degree is a great entry to further study options and qualifications in areas such as sport or community development, public health, sports and recreation management, and even teaching – helping benefit the health of the community around us.

As a pathway degree, the Bachelor of Physical Activity for Health also opens the door to ACPE’s four-year full-time (or part-time equivalent) Bachelor of Education (Physical and Health Education), which gives you the fundamental skills you need to build your dream education career.

Career opportunities for graduates of the Bachelor of Education (Physical and Health Education) degree are many and varied, including roles like a secondary school Personal Development, Health and Physical Education (PDHPE) teacher, sports development officer, school sports coordinator, recreation officer, youth worker and more.

Education degree entry requirements

Considering an education degree?

An education degree is also known as an “initial teacher education” or “ITE” course.

At ACPE, we offer two ITE courses: the Bachelor of Education (Physical and Health Education) and the Bachelor of Dance Education.

Strict direct entry requirements into ITE courses are set out by the New South Wales Education Standards Authority (NESA). But what happens if you don’t meet these requirements?

That’s why ACPE pathway degrees are fantastic: because we know that you want to keep your career options open. Pathway degrees to an education degree are a great option for students who don’t meet the NESA requirements for direct entry.

Entry to ITE courses may be granted either direct or indirect entry, and you can read more about these requirements on pages 5-6 of the ACPE Admissions Information Set here.

Other course information
