How Can I Become A Sports Coach in Australia

If you love sports, love the science of sports performance, and are passionate about developing the skills of athletes, then a career in sports coaching could be right for you.

But sports coaching isn’t just about physical performance. A sports coach also needs to develop an athlete’s or a team’s psychological and emotional strength – inspiring and building confidence for the athlete or team to push themselves to achieve their true potential and improve performance.

Not only is sports coaching an industry experiencing huge growth, but sports management and sports coaching are becoming increasingly complex from a political, legislative and social perspective.

On top of this, the increasing sports science and coaching knowledge required means that sports coaches are highly specialised professionals who need to have a broad range of skills.

There are many directions to go: from working in community sports, to junior sports teams and school sports, to elite level sports such as with the Australian Institute of Sport and professional sports teams and national leagues.

Given the sports coaching industry is experiencing massive growth and skilled sports coaches are in high demand, there’s never been a better time to study a Bachelor of Sports Coaching Management or Bachelor of Sports Coaching Strength and Conditioning.

That’s why at ACPE we’re proud to offer the Bachelor of Sports Coaching (Strength and Conditioning). This degree gives our students critical theoretical knowledge, advanced practical skills and industry exposure to excel in a sports coaching career and become leaders of the strength and conditioning industry.

Bachelor of Sports Coaching (Strength and Conditioning)

The Bachelor of Sports Coaching (Strength and Conditioning) is a specialised degree that provides students with the coaching, administrative and professional skills necessary for a successful career in sports coaching.

Our degree provides a unique mix of modern coaching and conditioning techniques, sport science, business units, as well as professional skills, from our team of experts. In fact, this is the only undergraduate degree in Australia that delivers the Advanced Strength and Conditioning option.

Bachelor of Sports Coaching (Management)

Our Bachelor of Sports Coaching (Management) is also a great option for students interested in the management side of sports coaching. The course offers a unique mix of coaching and business units on top of sports science and professional skills. The course has a strong focus on building coaching experience and management expertise, resulting in graduates gaining a flexible foundation for a successful career in sports coaching and sports management.

We’ve designed the degree to focus on the knowledge, skills and capacities required of the first of these professional categories in the areas of sport coaching and business management. There is a clear and demonstrated need for professionals with these abilities and understandings, which are soundly based within a body of scientific knowledge, and which are integrated with a range of specific and generic professional skills appropriate to industry needs.

ACPE’s partnership with Liverpool Football Club International Academy

But rest assured, at ACPE we don’t just offer theoretical or classroom-based management or strength and conditioning courses, because we’re committed to ensuring our graduates have the best foundation for a successful career in the sports coaching industry. That’s why the Bachelor of Sports Coaching (Strength and Conditioning) and Bachelor of Sports Coaching (Management) have a strong focus on practical, hands-on classes where you will learn critical problem-solving skills, as well as industry exposure and experience via our partnership network and our Liverpool Football Club International Academy.

We’re proud to offer our students incredible practical experience through our partnership with the Liverpool Football Club International Academy. This means our coaching students not only graduate with a degree in sports coaching, but can obtain Liverpool Football Club (LFC) coaching accreditation, work within the Academy and learn best practice from a premier league club like LFC. The values of LFC and ACPE are closely aligned and it is a natural fit. LFC and ACPE both believe in the transformational power of sport and education and this exciting partnership, gives our students the opportunity to learn coaching the Liverpool way – learning from the best.

Students who enrol in our Bachelor of Sports Coaching (Strength and Conditioning) degree are eligible to exit with an Australian Strength and Conditioning Association (ASCA) Level 1 and Level 2 accreditation.

The unique partnership between ACPE and the Liverpool Football Club International Academy provides both real industry experience via hands-on practical opportunities for our students, as well as excellent employment opportunities for our graduates.

“ACPE taught me the more industry experience you can put on your resume the better,” said Mitch Fuller, a Bachelor of Sports Coaching (Strength and Conditioning) graduate.

The result is that our graduates leave with an outstanding theoretical and practical foundation on which to build a career as a successful sports coach and strength and conditioning specialist. This isn’t something you can get with many theory-only sport coaching courses online.

A Bachelor of Sports Coaching (Strength and Conditioning) could lead to careers ranging from head and assistant coaches, to high performance athlete management, to sports administration.

Our commitment to combining theoretical and hands-on practical experience, as well as access to industry professionals and leading organisations like Liverpool Football Club, are two of the reasons why ACPE has a graduate employment rate of 90.1%.

ACPE is also proud to be a member of the International Council for Coaching Excellence.
