The full time course structure for the Undergraduate Certificate in Sports Coaching.
Each of the 4 units will run one at a time over a six-week period. The units will be delivered in a condensed mode with two sports coaching topics explored each week.
Coaching Techniques and Pedagogy
- This subject introduces principles of coaching practice through analysis of coaching philosophy, coaching pedagogy and techniques related to the delivery of coaching sessions.
- This subject introduces communication theories, methods and strategies and relates them to a coach’s professional communication in a variety of contexts and environments.
Athlete Talent Identification and Development
This subject focuses on the identification and development of sporting talent (TID). Students will be exposed to current TID models used in various high-performance sporting environments and critique the processes and practices as they relate to their own contexts.
Performance Analysis and Research in Coaching
This subject introduces students to the concept of conducting research projects; and methods of, measuring athlete performance and development through testing. Various research methodologies and findings will be discussed to highlight the strengths and limitations of information gained through research; and how it can be applied to the sport science and coaching profession.
