The Diploma of Community Sport and Movement can be completed in one year of full time study, or a part time equivalent. The course is delivered on campus with selected units online, with FEE-HELP approved, as well as Payment Plans, and Upfront payments available. Tuition payment arrangements must be confirmed upon admission to the college.

Assessments
Assessments are authentic and practical to prepare you for the workplace. However, some units may require attendance at formal exams.

You  may apply for an assessment of your prior learning at the time of applying for entry to an award course of the college.

PER1113Foundations of Sport Development

This unit examines management tools and techniques as they apply to an increasingly professionalised community sport environment. The unit aims to introduce students to the key concepts, practices, and issues in community sports organisations, as well as the importance of best practice for professionals in this sector. The unit also provides an introduction into the academic literacy discourses and practices required for tertiary study in the community sport and movement environment.

PER1111Physical Literacy for Children & Young People

This unit introduces physical literacy as an important determinant of lifelong learning through movement and physical activity. It is directly concerned with examining why and how physical literacy delivers physical, psychological, social and cognitive benefits for children and young people, and contributes to an individual’s health and wellbeing.

PER1103Coaching Techniques and Pedagogy

This unit introduces students to the general principles of coaching practice through various theories and pedagogy. The focus will be on identifying how combinations of techniques and styles can be used to reach a common goal, allowing students to identify how best to coach, based on specific situations in order to develop their own coaching philosophy.

HSC1105Exercise Prescription

This unit introduces students to the principles of exercise prescription. Students will learn about the risks associated with exercise and how to manage these risks using pre-screening and testing procedures. This foundational knowledge will assist in the development of individually tailored exercise prescription programs for the apparently health population, whose goals are to improve overall health, physical fitness and performance. Students will learn how to apply the FITT-VP principle of exercise prescription using scientific evidence on the physiological and health benefits of exercise.

This unit has been designed to develop in students the professional knowledge and competency required to work in the sport and movement industry. Students will be provided with an introduction to the legislative and legal obligations of the employer in sport industries. The unit also covers the areas of professional communication, child protection, work health and safety issues and mental health first aid and first aid.

This unit introduces effective communication required in individual and group processes and how it affects people in organisations. Major theories and models in key areas of communication will be examined including group dynamics, organisational relationships, leadership, feedback, risk, conflict, power, strategy, and structure and change management.

GHS2106Inclusive Health & Physical Activity

Students will examine the physiological, psychological, and sociological characteristics of diverse populations and identify specific health and physical activity issues related to each population. Students will then explore how physical activity can be adapted to promote life-long health and participation in physical activity for these populations. In doing so, students will critically evaluate the role, contribution and responsibilities of the government, community, and health professionals in promoting health and physical activity for diverse populations.

This unit provides students with an overview of operational and management practices associated with sports facilities. The unit investigates facility planning methods and models and operational aspects. The unit also aims to equip students with the ability to implement facility planning practices.

Compulsory requirements

  • All applicants must meet minimum computer literacy standards as determined by ACPE and have unrestricted access to the internet and a personal email account.
  • Mac or Windows laptop with the following minimum requirements: 16GB of memory, 256 GB SSD, Intel Core i5 or i7 processor and a front facing webcam/camera.
  • Domestic applicants must be 18 years of age or turn 18 within their first semester of
  • study. International applicants must be 18 years of age or older.
  • All applicants must meet the minimum English language requirements for their chosen course of study.
  • For courses that involve work-integrated learning where you may deal with children (i.e. under 18 years of age), applicants require a valid “Working with Children Check” which needs to be supplied to ACPE before you commence your course.

We are not ATAR dependent

The good news is our courses are not ATAR-dependent. Instead, you can be considered for admission via one of the following criteria:

  • A minimum NSW HSC (Higher School Certificate) or equivalent meeting required standards in relevant subjects.
  • Performance in relevant year 11 results for early entry pending release of HSC results.
  • An Associate Diploma, Diploma, Advanced Diploma, or Tertiary Preparation Certificate from a TAFE or other recognised VET provider qualification.
  • A completed Certificate IV from a TAFE or other recognised VET provider qualification plus completed year 11 or an equivalent.
  • One year of full-time or an equivalent study in a degree course at a recognised higher education institute in Australia or an equivalent.
  • Satisfaction of entry requirements specified under formal articulation arrangements as determined by the ACPE Academic Board.
  • Completion of a Big Picture Education Portfolio at a Big Picture School, supported by a recommendation from the school principal.
  • A recognised overseas qualification with demonstrated proficiency in English.
  • Demonstration to the CEO or the Dean’s satisfaction of good selection prospects as a student (for example, relevant work experience and motivation to study), and ineligibility to compete for admission based on the above academic achievement criteria.

Alternative Entry

An applicant seeking admission who is unable to demonstrate that they satisfactorily meet the General Admission Criteria above may apply to the College to be considered for Alternate Entry. The applicant may be requested to provide evidence that will demonstrate they have a reasonable likelihood of success in studies with the College. This includes mature entry (over 21 years) with relevant experience, elite athletes with interrupted study due to sports commitments, and any other potential applicants who may not meet the criteria above. Entry with advanced standing through educational pathways (e.g. RPL or credit transfer) may also be available based on previous study.

For students who have left school but who haven’t completed their HSC and are under 21 years of age, ACPE has an alternative entry pathway to allow potential access to an ACPE degree. For more information head to acpe.edu.au/earlyaccept/.
