From Placement to National Championships: A Year of Growth in Football
Since completing her university studies, Ellora King-Verbicaro has enjoyed an incredibly rewarding year, gaining valuable professional experience and continuing to develop across multiple areas of the football industry.
One of Ellora’s most significant milestones has been continuing her journey with New Lambton Football Club, where she completed her university placement. Following the placement, she was offered a part-time role in Administration and Operations late last year. The position has provided her with valuable insight into both the planning required for successful game days and the behind-the-scenes operations that keep a football club running smoothly. It has been an excellent opportunity to build practical skills while contributing to an organisation she is passionate about.
Alongside this role, Ellora has been coaching with Newcastle Football in its development program, where she currently coaches an Under-11 girls team. Coaching has become a genuine passion, and she has continued investing in her professional development by completing her Foundation of Football coaching qualification. Later this year, she will undertake her C Licence coaching course during the off-season, with Newcastle Football generously supporting her continued development by funding the qualification.
Earlier this year, Ellora also joined Northern NSW Football as a casual coach, delivering school coaching sessions and gala days across the region each week. Working with young players in a variety of environments has been an incredibly rewarding experience and has further strengthened her coaching, leadership, and communication skills.
The highlight of Ellora’s year has been representing Northern NSW Football at the Emerging Matildas Championships in Melbourne. She was appointed Team Manager for the Under-15 girls squad, providing support to the players and coaching staff throughout the week-long national tournament. The experience offered valuable exposure to a high-performance football environment, where she assisted with the team’s daily operations, supported players both on and off the field, and contributed to a successful campaign.
The team performed exceptionally well, finishing fourth overall against some of the strongest teams in the country. Being part of this achievement is a source of great pride for Ellora, and the experience has become one of the most valuable learning opportunities of her career to date.
Reflecting on the past year, Ellora is grateful for the opportunities she has received and for the strong foundation her university placement provided. The experience helped open doors, build meaningful industry connections, and gave her the confidence to pursue a career in football. As she continues to expand her skills and experience, Ellora looks forward to the opportunities and challenges that lie ahead in her football career.
